John attended Massey University doing a Bachelor of Business Studies, specializing in Personnel Studies and later returned to complete a Diploma in Farming. He has completed studies in joinery, furniture making and computer studies, in more recent years.
He has spent time in roles as diverse as Personnel manager at a large US Corporate, Functions manager for a substantial UK Hotel enterprise and running his own enterprises over the last 20 years, in farming, home services, insurance and business consultancy.
His current business interests include sheep & beef farming, niche insurance services to households & small business, advisory services to small business entrepreneurs and network marketing.
John is a family man resident in Whangarei married to Karin and enjoys the challenges of raising his five youngsters.
