Advertising Strategy

Advertising strategy refers to the campaigns that you want to put in play, what message you want to portray to your audience and which media type you use to do that.

To have a successful marketing campaign your advertising strategy needs to have a harmonious balance between the message and the media decision.

Before you decide that you want to use television, radio, print or any other media type, you must have a clear budget and a defined message that you want to portray to your audience.

Budget is Absolutely Necessary

Firstly, a budget is absolutely necessary for your advertising because it can quickly be blown out of the water or exceed your initial thoughts. Your budget will also determine which methods of advertising you can afford and which ones you can not. Your budget shouldn't just be a total figure that you have plucked from thin air. This should be a true indication of how much money you can afford to spend on advertising. The budget will need to cover all expenses. Production, marketing manager's time, advertising agency costs, media costs and anything else that may or may not be expected need to be determined in the budget.

Once your budget has been determined you will need to start researching and trailing your message.

Research What You Can Get For Your Money

Your message is usually presented through words and a powerful slogan. There are many business who do this and have made a lot of money from it, such as Nike's "Just Do It", Skittles "Skittles. Taste the rainbow.", Sprites "Obey Your Thirst." and Coke have been coming up with tempting slogans for over 100 years.

Your Image, Your Message

Ensure your message portrays exactly what you want to say. It will need to be clear and attractive. It must also be able to communicate the message to the audience so that they can interpret it and act accordingly. Be direct and stay away from wordy, confusing slogans and messages.

Your message will have to be creative, entertaining and if at all possible rewarding to the listener, reader or viewer. Remember you are competing with a lot of others out there whether they are in the same industry or not. Everyone is fighting to get their message across.

Best Medium For Your Message

When your message is finally ready you are able to take a step towards best mediums for your message. For example is it absolutely necessary for the potential customer to see it in a moving picture format to get the message across better or is a simple print ad more beneficial.

Again remember your budget and research what you can get for your money, what types of response rates it will give you and what image is going to best suit your business. When you approach media sellers in regards to their advertising medium ask them as many questions as possible and request their statistical information. When it comes to marketing your business through messages and mediums you will need to ensure that you are going to be doing it in the best way because it is an expensive exercise if you only gain a few customers.
